Is the BTC bear over?

Not confirmed

Separate cycle-engine read on the same tape (2026-08-25). Daily is a bounce off the 200-week SMA; weekly and monthly are still Accumulation (August month incomplete). This edition’s tape uses the same BTC close $78,539. Full for/against: Is the BTC bear over? Not a second scenario register, not a buy list.

01§ Paths

Paths toward 2030 — what would have to be true

You asked, in substance: where does capital work from here to 2030? This edition does not answer with tickers or a buy list. It answers with sensible paths given current evidence, the conditions that must become true for each path, and the signals we both watch to confirm or kill them. We score the same tripwires every quarter.

How to read this. “Sensible path” = coherent with the data and your watchlist today — not a prediction and not advice. Asset language below is conditional (if the path is live, these exposures tend to benefit or suffer). Premise, timing, and sizing remain yours.

02§ Paths

Toward 2030 — the structural fork

Synthesis: neither path is currently confirmed by the tape. Path A’s drivers are real but transmission is absent; Path B has no usable acceleration data yet. Not a coin flip — an open fork with asymmetric evidence.

Both open · neither confirmed · this is the capital-path question

Path B — Productivity escape

B6 · theme 4

Why sensibleDrivers are real: debt/GDP 122.6%, gross debt ~$39T, entitlement clocks, net-interest pressure (definition still being pinned — WL-09). Your fiscal arithmetic is the load-bearing post. The only structural exit that isn’t debasement: growth/productivity outruns the fiscal arithmetic (including an AI-driven productivity possibility — not yet evidenced here).
Evidence nowTransmission is not confirming. Real 10y yields rising (1.74%→2.32%); M2 YoY 5.41% below the 7% band — the opposite of easy “run it hot” right now. Stated plainly.Too thin to prefer. Nonfarm productivity index 120.0 vs 119.6 — grind, not acceleration. Theme 4 is the sparsest claim set.
Must become trueDebt/GDP >125% for four quarters · real 10y <0% for a full quarter · M2 YoY >7% for two quarters (checkpoints through ~2028–2030).Nonfarm productivity >3% YoY for four consecutive quarters.

If true, tends to…Support gold, BTC, inflation-linked exposures; pressure long nominal bonds — if and when the checkpoints print. Not a buy list today.Support broad risk on a durable growth basis; less need for a permanent gold/BTC hedge premium — conditional, and data-gated.

Hedge confirmation layer

Mixed

Gold/BTC behaviour (chapter five, WL-12) tells us whether markets are acting like a debasement hedge — it does not cause Path A. 30d BTC↔gold corr 0.540 (below the 0.6 bar) but lag=0 and real yields up — counter-case favours shared risk-on beta over hedge transmission.

Must become true (for hedge read): WL-12a: corr ≥0.6 for 20 days · WL-12b: stable positive lag — and preferably corr rising while real yields fall. Watch together: WL-12 / proposed 12a·12b · WL-11 · §D counter-case each edition.

Shared operating deal

We monitor the same tripwires (§C), pre-register resolution criteria (§B), and score them every quarterly edition (§F). You watch; we watch. Paths move only when named conditions print — never by narrative drift. Open research placeholders (China pack, FRED WL-09 IDs, AI/scarcity residuals) are listed honestly below and in §G.

Three questions we’re putting to you this edition — layer binding (which driver layer is binding for you now), a falsifier for “run it hot”, and your strongest pushback on the §D counter-case. Full text in §G.

1 · The fiscal arithmetic

Driver — the problem.

DataDebt/GDP 122.6% (FRED GFDEGDQ188S, Q1 2026) — +0.03pp vs Q4 2025 (122.57%). The 121.0% print is 2025-Q3, not the prior quarter. Gross federal debt $39.07T (GFDEBTN) — not yet past the $39.2T handle on the latest print. Live note: Matt’s ~$40T intuition tracks the stock; keep debt stock separate from the interest ratio.

OpenWL-09 net interest ÷ total federal outlays — figure withdrawn until the FRED pair is locked. Interest bill ÷ total federal spend is the live direction. Debt stock stays a separate line.

2 · Debasement

Fork thesis — default resolution if fiscal bites.

DataM2 YoY 5.41% — below 7% baseline. Real 10y TIPS rising 1.74% → 2.32% (Oct’25→Aug’26; off 2.44% peak 17 Aug) — moving away from negative-real-rate trigger.

InferenceSingle most direct counter-read to “run it hot” in the current data — stated plainly, not softened.

3 · The Fed & the price of money

Transmission layer.

DataFed funds 3.63%. CPI YoY 3.30% (July). Trimmed PCE 2.28 · median CPI 3.11 (July) — June’s one-month disinflation watch is not confirmed. WL-01 not breached.

OpenWarsh/Bessent / Fed-restructuring tone (WL-03) — Tier C/D only; no primary FOMC text in Tier A/B this edition.

4 · The escape route

Competing fork — productivity vs debasement.

DataNonfarm productivity index 120.0 (2026-04-01 ≈ Q2) vs 119.6 (2026-01-01 ≈ Q1) — grind, not acceleration. Thinnest theme (17 claims).

Queued (QUANT · ~2026-11): sustained >3% YoY productivity read — data too thin to score this edition. AI-driven productivity boom is a candidate deep-dive, not evidenced here.

5 · The hedges

Confirmation layer — see §D.

Data30d BTC↔gold correlation 0.045 → 0.540 (Dec’25→Aug’25) — off the 0.596 print; still below HYP_022’s 0.6-for-20-days bar. Lag half already failing: 90d cross-corr best fit at lag = 0 — mixed, not confirmation.

InferenceFunding +0.007%/print — one print/day on disk; not annualised here. Not in negative-funding squeeze zone.

6 · External clocks

Overlays — can swamp a US-only read.

InferenceCLARITY Act (WL-17): working assumption still delay toward Nov 2026+ — no dated Tier A/B legislative event this edition.

OpenChina bottoming (WL-18): Tier C/D. Live: Matt delegates series choice — seed housing market + QE / government liquidity injection.

BTC as a lagged gold proxy — the test we ran

Theme 5 · HYP_022 (BTC-as-lagged-gold-proxy) / SCN-01 — largest quantified Tier-A movement this edition. Selected because WL-12 showed the most registry movement and it is your own hedge point, verbatim.

1. Claim (one sentence): BTC increasingly co-moves with gold, with BTC following gold on a measurable lag — evidence of debasement-hedge behaviour versus a pure risk-on tech proxy.

2. Why now: WL-12 is the tripwire with the largest quantified move across the register this edition (§C).

3. Method [DATA/A]: 30-day rolling Pearson correlation of daily log returns — data/assets/BTC/history/daily.csv vs data/macro/cross_asset/GLD.csv, aligned trading dates (2,267 days back to 2017-08-17; recent window discussed). Cross-correlation lag test on trailing 90-day window, lags −10…+10. Inputs are Tier A; the statistic is a derived computation, reproducible from the cited files.

4. How it modifies the 6 themes

5Theme 5: direct anchor — concrete Tier-A movement behind the hedge headline.
1Themes 1 & 2: rising corr ≠ causation via debasement — real yields rose over the same window. Could be coincident macro-beta.
3Theme 3: lag=0 fits both assets reacting to the same Fed-adjacent news flow, not a structural follow-through.

5. What would falsify (HYP_022)

30d corr falling and staying <0.3 for 90 calendar days, or lag unstable/inverted across two quarterly reviews. Current data already partially falsifies the lag half.

Proposed tripwires: WL-12a — 30d corr ≥0.6 for 20 consecutive days (now 0.540, below the bar) · WL-12b — best-lag flipping from 0 to a stable +1…+10 on 90d re-test.

6. Counter-case (mandatory)

Contemporaneous corr while real yields rose (1.74%→2.44% peak (17 Aug); now 2.32%) and SPY/gold/BTC all rallied is exactly shared risk-on beta — not a clean gold→BTC transmission. A genuine debasement-hedge link should strengthen when real yields fall; they did the opposite. More parsimonious this edition: broad risk-appetite co-movement. This doesn't refute HYP_022 outright — but the skepticism belongs beside the 0.540 headline, not left out of it.

MQ-01PartialCapture path proven. Whether you forwarded since 5 Jul is still unanswered — Jul–Aug +betty was quiet.
MQ-02PartialWL-09: use FRED-faithful interest ÷ total federal spend; ~$40T is the debt stock. Still need published series IDs.
MQ-03Open → usChina: we choose series — seed housing + liquidity/QE-style injection.
MQ-04ClosedHorizon: toward 2030.
MQ-05PartialScarcity as lens (AI abundance → scarce residuals: energy, land, trust, hard caps). Formal tag-through still TBD.
MQ-06OpenLayer binding (drivers 3/4 vs transmission vs fork vs external) — “it all depends”; not yet named.
MQ-07OpenFalsifier for “run it hot” — not yet asked.
MQ-08OpenStrongest pushback on §D risk-beta counter-case — not yet asked.
MQ-09PartialPurpose: 2030 outcomes, AI beneficiaries, holdings dialogue — report stays non-advice.

Live session 2026-08-10 — what we locked · what stays open

Locked: purpose includes 2030 capital outcomes & AI-change beneficiaries (report still does not answer “what to buy”); horizon → 2030; Jul–Aug quiet on +betty = source quiet; WL-09 → prefer FRED-faithful interest ÷ total federal spend; China signals → we research (housing + liquidity/QE-style injection); scarcity = cross-cutting lens (AI abundance → what’s still scarce).

Open / next edition: AI-beneficiary map · holdings dialogue (Gary) · FRED WL-09 published pairing · China housing/liquidity pack · layer-binding conviction · scarcity residuals one-pager.

Coverage

The registry is a capture log, not a knowledge base. 99.5% of rows are still candidate — expected at this phase. Gate = every theme has ≥1 finalised source (PASS). Row-% is a statistic, not the gate.

Claim mix · 8,254 rows · 2026-08-10
StatusRowsShare
candidate (captured, not evidenced)8,21399.5%
provisional_supported140.17%
linked270.33%

Status ≠ tier. Status = workflow state; tier = whether evidence exists on disk. They are independent — a claim can be Tier A and still candidate. That is why Tier A (201) ≫ provisional_supported + linked (41).

Effective evidence tier (per claim)
TierRowsShareMeaning
A2012.4%Anchored to on-disk QUANT downdata
B270.3%Scout-persisted file corroboration
D8,02697.2%Assertion / paraphrase / scenario — no data anchor
C00%Live-URL-only → route scout_fetch before entering this tier

Macro-claim gate: 135 Tier A/B claims currently eligible in the isolated macro dimension (coefficient fixed at 0 — no score impact). That 135 is a filtered subset of registry A+B = 228. Loop health: gate-eligible evidence ~9× since June (15→135) via QUANT-150 — throughput, not a forecast.

Theme 5’s 879 is a mechanical keyword upper bound (bitcoin/gold mentions) — not a semantic hedge classifier. Unassigned 6,892 rows = exception / no keyword match / ambiguous — mostly non-macro, not a coverage hole. Source coverage: 352 distinct sources with ≥1 claim of 827 staged files.

Anti-mirror

  • WL-09 — Your figure is withdrawn. Expected order of magnitude is teens % of outlays; published series pair not yet confirmed. Debt stock ~$39T is a separate line. Not a silent “fix” of your number.
  • WL-18 — Delegated to research (housing + liquidity). Revisit when pack lands.
  • WL-15 — “Run it hot” still unfalsifiable as framed — MQ-07.
  • Theme 5 precision879 keyword rows; semantic pass still due.

Notes

Not trade advice. Research and monitoring note for a named recipient from open-source capture and structural frameworks. Not a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any instrument. Likelihood language is convention, not calibrated probability. Exposure-control framing only (RISK-014 / RISK-016 / compliance-register).

Codes on these pages

  • Your 11 — the numbered list you sent. Each monthly scores it.
  • WL — our watchlist codes (WL-01…). Your #1 splits into several. Live scores: Q3 §C.
  • P-YYYY-MM-NN — the named watch we grade next month. Same ID, never rewritten.
  • MQ — open questions. English is the question; the code is the ticket.
